TMJ Therapy
Many TMJ sufferers bounce between splints, pain relievers, and frustration. At True Health Centers, we specialize in the musculoskeletal side of TMJ disorders — treating what dental care alone can't reach.

OUR APPROACH
TMJ therapy that goes beyond the splint
Most people with TMJ dysfunction are first treated in a dental setting with splints, night guards, or bite adjustments. While these tools can protect your teeth, they rarely address the underlying causes of jaw pain — muscle tension, postural imbalances, or restricted joint mobility. That's why many patients continue experiencing pain even after wearing a splint for months.
Musculoskeletal focus
We treat the muscular, joint, and postural causes of TMJ pain that dental approaches don't address. Jaw dysfunction rarely exists in isolation — it connects to the neck, shoulders, and upper back.
Dry needling for the jaw
Our therapist is specifically trained in safe, effective dry needling of the masseter, temporalis, and surrounding muscles — one of the most direct and effective ways to release chronic jaw tension.
Whole-system treatment
Each 45-minute session combines comprehensive evaluation and treatment in one visit. You leave feeling immediate improvement — not just with a plan for next time.
"If your TMJ treatments only consist of splints or botox, you are being set up for a lifetime of pain and dysfunction"
– Dinell Jacobson, PT
WHAT TO EXPECT
What your TMJ treatment session includes
Our 45-minute TMJ sessions are designed specifically for patients with jaw pain, dysfunction, associated headaches, and related muscle tension. Every session combines assessment and treatment so there's no separate evaluation appointment.
Manual Therapy
Hands-on treatment of the TMJ and surrounding soft tissues — releasing restriction in the joint capsule, addressing fascial tension, and restoring normal jaw mechanics.
Targeted needle release of overactive muscles — including the masseter, temporalis, pterygoids, and sub-occipital muscles — that drive jaw clenching, clicking, and headaches. Safe and effective around the jaw when performed by a trained clinician.
Postural Retraining
Addressing the jaw–neck–shoulder complex as a whole. Forward head posture and poor shoulder mechanics directly load the TMJ — correcting these reduces the mechanical stress that keeps the jaw symptomatic.
Neuromuscular Retraining
Red light therapy that stimulates cells to produce more energy, accelerating tissue healing, reducing inflammation, and relieving pain.
Patient Education & Habit Modification
Understanding what's driving your jaw pain — sleep position, clenching habits, diet, stress — and specific strategies to reduce recurrence. This is what separates temporary relief from lasting resolution.
WHO THIS IS FOR
Symptoms TMJ treatment commonly addresses
TMJ dysfunction presents differently in different people. If you're experiencing any of the following, a TMJ evaluation at True Health is a good next step.
Jaw pain, clicking, locking, or popping
Ear fullness, tinnitus (ringing), or dizziness linked to jaw tension
Neck and shoulder tightness related to clenching or posture
Headaches or facial pain associated with jaw tension
Difficulty chewing or limited mouth opening
Ongoing jaw pain despite wearing a splint or night guard
