The first visit lasts about two hours to ensure we leave no stone unturned. We normally have a good idea of what is going on with you at this point but we may want to order some specialty lab testing at this time. Once we have all the info we need we create a comprehensive treatment plan together. One that meets you where you're at and addresses all of your health goals.

Yes! Naturopathic doctors (NDs) attend a four year, post graduate, naturopathic medical school accredited by the US Department of Education. These programs are very comparable to those of traditional medical schools attended my MDs and DOs. Naturopathic medical students take the same basic sciences, biomedical sciences, and diagnostic sciences classes. Naturopathic doctors must also pass national board exams before they can practice.

Where the programs differer is that NDs place more emphasis on natural treatment courses such as nutrition, supplementation, herbal medicine, hydrotherapy, physical medicine, and homeopathy. They still take pharmacology and even minor surgery classes, but not as many as MDs and DOs do.

In fact, naturopathic medical students typically undergo more classroom hours than traditional medical students. They just complete less residency hours because they are already in their specialty.

Nonetheless, naturopathic doctors are trained to be primary care providers and can even prescribe pharmaceuticals and perform minor surgeries depending on their state's scope of practice!
